I have a mcp61sm-am motherboard and I have 8gb ram in it but I have have a 512mb graphics card in it and I was was wondering if I can put a ddr 3 graphics card in it

Sure you can as long as you power supply is sufficient, and has or not needed cable for power to video card (if required)

Yes you can put a DDR3 or even a GDDR5 graphics card in that motherboard because DDR2 is system ram. DDR3 is your graphics card VRAM. Just make sure your pc has a PCI-e slot and you'll be all good! :D
