Iam in middle of getting my skylake build. I got asus gtx980 strix from amazon since it was on deal. my current spec is
core2duo e4500
dg31pr
4gb ram
gt210 (will put in gtx980)
zebronics 450W psu(will put in Seasonic M12II-620 EVO M12II Series 620-Watt Modular Power Supply)

All i want to do is, just to test if the card is working fine. i can put it back on once i got my other stuffs for my skylake build below
i5 6600k
h100i gtx cooler
asus z170 pro gaming
gtx 980 strix (purchased)
G.SKILL RIPJAWS 4 SERIES 8GB (2 X 4GB) DDR4 2133MHZ DESKTOP RAM
seasonic 620w modular(purchased)
deepcool kendomen case

Thats why i got a Seasonic M12II-620 EVO M12II Series, i will be testing using this PSU oly. I just want to know, by putting in gtx980 on a dg31pr,core2duo & seasonic 620w psu wont cause any significant damage to the card.

it will run, and yes you can test it this way

BUT it will run like crap because that cpu is too slow for it so you might not get great testing done this way

XD

Ya bro it will indeed run like crap....i got the card since it was on deal...i just want to make sure the card works, to avoid a dod.
Once i get the rest of my build... will put this in.
Thanks for replying!!!

haha ya i get that. By testing i mean i just want to make sure the card is working, thats all i need.
Thanks!!

So i got the card and PSU...installed it on my box,i was worried whether crappy zebronics case is gonna fit the 980, surprisingly it did. Both the card n psu is running great till now.

But running this card on core2duo is gonna put more load on my cpu?? cuz CPU is idling at 50-60C. On load(Dota2),its hitting 80-90C. Will reducing gpu boost clock & memory clock, put less load on my core2duo???

Just need a temporary measure to hold this off, i will get i5-6600k/asus z170a pro gamin mobo in a month.
