Wasn't getting a lot of replies in the Cooling/Heat Sink part of the forum and since this is a new build PC, I figured it was relevant here too.
Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X series DDR3 1333 8gb (2x4gb)
Graphics Card: MSI GTX 560 Twin Frozr II 1 GB
Power Supply: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31
Heat Sink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Hard Drive: Samsung F3 1TB
Optical Drive: Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98 - Retail (Black)
So basically the computer works fine but I didn't have the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus put on so now I'm trying to do that. I had a few questions since I have never put a heat sink on and I wanted to make sure it was secure so it didn't come crashing down onto my video card. I have the back plate on already and I'm hoping I'm going to be able to get this on without taking out the motherboard. My first question is regarding the retention plate and heat sink. Does the retention plate actually attach to the heat sink in anyway before screwing it into the back plate or does it just basically sit there and screwing it into the back plate holds it in place? Also, my DIMM 1 slot is closest to the processor and when I put the cooler in, the fan will be sitting on the stick of RAM. Should I just slide the fan up on the heat sink until it clears it or set it up a different way?
