My current system is starting to show it's age, so I decided it was time to go all out (or at least as much as my wallet allows) on a new one.

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-E
Memory: Crucial CT6464Z40B 512MB x2
Hard Drive: Maxtor 80GB 6Y080P0
CD/DVD: Plextor PX-716A
Video: Leadtek PX6600GT

I don't plan on overclocking this at all. Any thoughts/opinions?

What do you use the system to do? What is the most important performance factor (gaming, video encoding, etc.)? What's your budget?

Depending on your performance needs and what you use the system to do, I would look at a larger capacity drive. The 250GB drive have the best $/GB ratio right now. You could probably save >$100 by going with a 3500+ and then use that $ in other parts, like the HDD or video card.

The Asus mobo is good, but I would also consider the <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-123-236&depa=1" target="_new">Epox Ep-9NPA+ Ultra</A> and the <A HREF="http:// www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152049" target="_new">Chaintech VNF4 Ultra</A> at lower price points.

Gaming is the main drive behind the new computer. I already have a 200gb hard drive in my current system that I plan to move over to the new one. Current budget is about $1200, and this comes in just under that.

If you're willing to overclock, you'd be better off spending less on the CPU and getting a better video card (well you say gaming's what you do). You can overclock a 3200+ Venice to past 3800+ stock speeds but you really can't o/c a 6600GT past 6800GT speeds.

Primarily gaming, then I would seriously consider getting an X800XL. It is a serious step above the 6600GT and costs ~$270 for a PCIe. I've seen them for around $250 by checking for deals on <A HREF="http://bensbargains.net/" target="_new">Bensbargains.net</A> or <A HREF="http://www.techbargains.com" target="_new">Techbargains.com</A>. Drop down to a 3500+, get the 9NPA+ and you have more than enough for the X800XL.

Yeah, Newegg has the Rosewill X800XL for $260 I think. There's ome coupon code.. Hmm lemme check. CNETHELP1 should drop the price from $269 to $259. That's a pretty good deal.
