PWM fan runs at 100%, I can't control it?

Hello

I recently bought an Akasa Apache 120mm fan for the rear top of my case. I bought it to replace the standard 3 pin coolermaster fan that came with the case. The main reason for the purchase was I like my PC to be as quiet as possible and I wanted to control the fans speed\power. I currently use Asus Fan Expert to control my current fans. However I can't seem to control the new fan, its running at 100%. The new fan appears in the Fan Expert software but it will not allow me to set any of the predefined profiles such as Silent, Turbo or custom. When I try to apply any of the settings the fan powers off. The fan only works when I have it set to disabled in Fan Expert which in itself is weird.

I have also used Speedfan to try and control it with no success. I have disconnected the fan, reconnected, removed the software, re-installed but nothing seems to work. Ironically I bought the PWM fan to have control over it but I have no control at all.

My mobo is an Asus crosshair IV formula and I am connecting to a 4 pin connector. I also checked the Bios settings but cannot see anything in there that would be causing the issue.

Can anyone help?

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. I did think that myself but alas I don't have the means to test it. The only other 120mm PWM fan I have is the one attached to my aftermarket coolermaster CPU heatsink so I can disconnect that and boot up or I'd fry my CPU. The other fan I have is 200mm.

Perhaps I should return the fan to overclockers...................

But if Xpert is controlling the CPU fan okay, you can connect the CPU fan to the chassis PWM connector and the Akasa to the CPU connector, surely? Either the Akasa will still not work properly in which case it's the fan, or the CPU fan will blow at 100% and you'll know it's the motherboard/chassis connector.

Ah I can see the force is strong with you my friend.....I joke of course.................I had not thought of that..........................and that is a good idea. If the cables will reach I will try that tonight.

Thanks
