PWR_FAN Header on P6T

This will sound retarded to most, but I have just built a new computer:

ASUS p6T Deluxe
Intel i7 920
12 gigs 1600 Corsair RAm

I am using a Thermaltake Purepower 680 PSU. I cannot find this supply even listed on ThermalTakes site, but it is very nice and works well so far.

So, problem - There is a PWR_FAN header on the P6T. And, there is a small three pin cable on the power supply. I assume this is for the power supply fan controll, but I'm not about to plug it in to find out.

Trouble is the wires on the cable use the two outside pins and by the looks of the specs on the P6T they use the center and one adjacent pin.

Am I going to screwup my board by plugging this in, do I need to find a different connector, or does it even matter?

All help appreciated.

I don't think most regular PSUs have an external fan controller... why bother - the heat is in the PSU and can be monitored and controlled by that without needing any external control if it can be controlled at all.

I too have the P6Tse, so was pondering the same thing, until I decided that I didn't much care.

I don't think the P6T has the capability to control the PSU fan speed anyway. It must be for monitoring purposes. Honestly, I've never heard a Power supply change fan speed, out of perhaps 8 computers I have here, and this is a nice quiet PSU. If it 's running full bore all the time I won't care. So, I'll just leave it unhooked. I'll probably upgrade to something like a 1000 watter soon anyway.

Now, to find the drivers for the 7 System Interrupt Controllers which appear to be disfunctional in the Device Manager.

Did you have that problem?

Damned nice board and CPU though. Very, very fast compared to the dual (quad) Opteron 1.8's I have in my old machine.

Mine is i7-920 on a P6Tse with 6GB RAM, 1TB Caviar Black and a 4870 video card with 1GB. All stuffed inside an R690 case with a 750TX PSU.

My old machine had lasted 11 years with a mid-life motherboard upgrade and was actually slowing down my DIAL-UP internet access !

I decided to load Win 7 on it, but have had a problem which I think is due to a bad ISO burn so I'll try a clean one tonight (there is another topic with fuller details). However, I cannot exactly comment on how good or bad the performance is until I get it to blasted perform at all !

The only real issue I had with the build was that I put the Xigmatek Dark Knight cpu cooler on the wrong way around so that was working against the case fan rather than with it. I thought I would have to pull it all apart but a little brute force and a lot of luck let me remove the fan so I could unscrew the cooler, add a little more thermal goo and put it all back together right way around.
