Synthetickiller :
So, do you guys think sites like tiger direct or newegg will send out random Q6600s and those that get G0 stepping luck out?
No.
Synthetickiller :
Seems to me its not going to be so easy to get your hands on one if the vendors do not validate which CPU is which.
They do. Have you looked at the Specs on the currently available Q6600? If you purchase one with the G-0 stepping conversion that’s the one you should receive. If they don’t send you the processor you ordered, send it back. Tigerdirect identifies the processor you’re purchasing on their product page:
Wattage: 105W
Architecture: 65 nm
Core Stepping B3
So does Newegg on the Manufacturers Product link…
Package type: LGA775
Manufacturing technology: 65 nm:
Core Stepping: B3
CPUID String: 06F7h
TDP 105W
Thermal Spec 62.2°C
Core Voltage 1.100V-1.372V
The question is which stores don’t?
Also, according to Intel, the availability of the new processors is dependent on how fast old inventory is depleted:
“The depletion of inventory may be impacted by fluctuating supply and demand,
therefore, although customers should be prepared to receive the Post-Converted Materials on this date [July 13,2007], Intel will continue to ship and customers may continue to receive the pre-converted materials until the inventory has been depleted.”
So it would seem, not surprisingly, that retailers are expected to deplete old inventory before selling the updated processors.
Besides, each processor is clearly identified prior to adding it to your cart so they would have to differentiate the old ones from the new ones. To send out one that isn%u2019t as represented on the retailers site at the time of purchase is to send you the wrong item.

Any ideas how to circumvent this problem?
