QNAP TS-231 or Synology 215J?

Hello everyone,

I've got a trusty Synology 212J which I'd like to upgrade and looking at the Synology 215J & the QNAP TS-231.

Would like to get opinions on this, I think they're in the same league. Home use, for streaming in-house over wifi, storage, and will be adding Apple HomeKit devices later this year (think QNap has some home automation built-in)

The DS215j has availability issues in the US. Lead time on Amazon showed 1 to 2 months when I last looked and it does not yet show up on NewEgg. I don't know about cost but, feature wise the Qnap is closer in features to the DS214+

The Qnap has dual gig-e, and ESATA. You have to go to the DS214+ to get that in a dual bay Synology.

Thanks - MSRP for the 215J is $200 so looks like a decent pricepoint for home, don't need dual gig-e or swap bays. Lead time apparently is 1-2 weeks in Canada. Not holding my breath though.
