Hi all,

I am having a problem in which when i am gaming when my brother turns on his phone and starts scrolling through social media feed he absolutely annihilates my ping. In short i am looking for software that is able to limit the speeds in which his phone downloads, because despite it being on a very low priority on QoS it still manages to eat up our speeds.
Sidenote: The modem/router i am currently using is the Negear Nighthawk D7000

Kind regards,

Lucidityy

If someone can affect your game with just web browsing..especially on a phone you likely have a very small internet connection. I suspect there is not a lot you can do.

QoS is one of the most advanced network topic there is and tends to be complex to configure. Those priority settings are overly simplistic and mostly do nothing useful. The can only affect upload traffic and most peoples problem is download traffic.

From the quick look at the manual I do not think your router has the feature you are going to need to even think to do this. You need to limit the upload and download rates to fixed values. From what I can tell your router can only apply simplistic policies to the upload path.

Since you have a dsl router you have...

Yeah, we're both on wifi.

Yeah, we're on different channels, im on 5GHZ and he's on 2.4GHZ

Since you have a dsl router you have few options when the manufacture does not supply the feature.

Still even if you had the most advanced router there was what it will do in effect is say when I am playing games my brother is not allowed to use the internet.

Now maybe you have some problem with your connection but I strongly suspect you have a connection that is less than 5mbit.
