Most likely Pro 64 bit, looking over the features list, there really is nothing a regular home user, even an enthusiast, could possibly need in ultimate, with the possible except (and this is stretching) of the hardware bitlocker security feature. I mean i guess if you were an ultra l33t h4x0r, that might be a feature that would be nice in case the feds ever raid you, but for us non hacker types, i can't see how using that would be anything more than extreme paranoia.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

I definitely like it better than vista. Vista ran sluggish on my 2.83ghz quad core, 8GB RAM, and a 300GB WD Velocity Raptor. Windows 7 pro runs so much better.

I didn't get ultimate because bit locker is completely useless.

In my opinion they should have an Ultimate Gold edition for an extra 150 bucks which includes 24k gold plated disks! /sarcasm

Home Premium. Who needs XP emulation. Just dual boot. Something doesn't work in Win7? Boot into XP. This solution gives you time to get all your files, email addresses, email, bookmarks, etc. at your leisure, instead of a panicky 12 hour marathon of copying etc. and then realize you forgot something. However, to do this you will need to download EasyBCD2.0 Beta to get all the XP booting info into your OS choice screen. It comes with instructions, and takes about 15 seconds to set XP up as a second OS choice. If you are upgrading from Vista.... you have my deepest sympathy.

Oops! Sorry. Forgot to say 32 bit. I have a 64 bit capable machine, but read a lot of reports that I may have hassles with 64 bit. I will wait until more software is written for 64 bit.

ultimate. naturally. i upgraded from rc 7201 with the hack in the text file of the dvd. i installed from copied files on hdd.

main reason to update was that jump list on windows explorer got frozen. it wouldnt show up at all, only the basic two commands to open and close the explorer.

i tried everything i could find online and/or could think of to no avail.

after i upgraded, i lost the rc number in the corener, but explorer jump list was still broken.

i changed account, used acout transfer (that took a long time to pack 7gb of data) and in the end did nothing at all. not even bookmarks were transferred, let alone icon and program placement on desktop/taksbar.

I'm actually very disappointed in jump lists (as much as they're absolutely amazing, they have vista's "maybe-i-wont-work-today" feeling to them) and account transfer- that only wasted my time.

about an hour after the account transfer failed, i set everything up and even explorer jump lists work now- obviously i had to set up pinned locations again. I set up to automatically log in the new account.

win7 is amazing, but still shows signs of vista's uncompletedness showing through here and there.

I believe 64 is the future. Microsoft wont make another windows with 32bit,after they announce next windows 8 release will only be 64bit and 128bit. So goodbye 32bit and welcome 64bit. I already move everything at 64bit and no problem. Also, 64bit support 32bit. I will stick with Windows 7 pro 64bit. it is faster. I love it.

XP is running great at the moment, games are playing fine, and with free Microsoft Essentials, security is good enough. I will move to Windows 7 64bit Home Premium when needed, but not until I can pick up a retail version for no more than $100.00.

I got Windows 7 Pro for free. Due to the Upgrade Option that Dell put out with newly bought PC's. I got my M17x. Windows 7 should be here in 2 weeks for me.

Got the disk yesterday and did a full install of 64-bit Pro. It was a good deal for $39, and I like the overall look. I had Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and this just blows the old out of the water. I may even give 64-bit IE a spin after a 4 year hiatus from IE.

I like the MS security software that can be downloaded for free, the back-up utility, etc. I have not tried the tune-up or defrag, but will give it a shot tonight and see how fast it really is.

My only complaint is the splash/login screen backgrounds. Surely MS can do better than funky drawings of doves sitting on branches. Also, I do not like any of the backgrounds MS provides. It is a hi-tech world and MS should focus their art on such and drop the "I feel good Disney bullshit." A super nova image would do, or an electron microscope shot of some crystalline structures. Other than that, I am pleased with the new OS.
