Quadro 420 -Can't Get 4 monitors to work. Only 3 do

Just bought a new Dell Workstation with an Nvidia Quadro NVS 420 card to support four monitors. I updated all drivers and windows and my system will only allow 3 monitors to work at one time. I only allows me to duplicate one of the monitors to the 4th monitor. Am I missing something or could it be a bad card. I tried a new monitor also but still the same problem. My connection is a 4 cable dongle to the card. I thought this was plug and play but apparently not.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried checking the settings at the Nvidia Control Panel?

Same problem here. I saw a statement elsewhere with no citation that the 4th display won't work with Windows 7 x64.

After I updated the drivers, if I try to enable the 4th monitor under the nVidia application, it gave me a balloon that says that the GPU only supports 1 monitor, and the system needs to be rebooted to enable the second one. A reboot didn't change anything.

Dell Support said it was an issue, but couldn't find any solution that said it was for Win7. He gave me the solution indicated for Vista and XP:

download the latest driver from nVidia, disconnect from the network, uninstall the driver, reboot and do not let Windows try to install the driver. Then, install the driver you previously downloaded.

Once I did that and rebooted, I was again back to three displays. But once I went into the nVidia control panel, it let me enable the 4th display.

Getting all 4 displays to work

This is the solution I've discovered where the 4 monitors attached are
Veiwsonic VA2026w's. Machine is an XW9400 with 2 Quadro FX3700's.


Run the ViewSonic Drivers file. (Or whatever your monitor driver file is)
This will install the files such that (though unsigned) are accessible
via driver update dialog box - show all hardware. IE: Can force this driver
to install. Reboot system after drivers installed and see how many monitors
are listed as identified correctly (in my case VA2026w). If are more then
4 are listed, uninstall all monitor listings then re-boot.

Upon reboot, the monitor listing (in drivers section) should list
8 monitors

System Monitor - or something very similar to this.

Force driver updates for System Monitors listed to VA20206w
via the show all hardware dialog box, scroll to bottom of list
and in the second Veiwsonic driver folder will be listed VA2026w.
Select this and hit apply. The software will ask for the file
VA2026w.icm. Navigate as per below and apply. The driver will now be
installed for that monitor.

C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color\VA2026w.icm

Repeat for other three System Monitors.

Reboot machine, and when back up, in hardware listing dialog
box - disable all default monitor listings.
I say disable as, if you uninstall these expecting them not
to show up again, they will. Thus they must be disabled.

When done device manager should look like
Monitors
Default Monitor - (indicated as disabled via red icon)
Default Monitor - (indicated as disabled via red icon)
Default Monitor - (indicated as disabled via red icon)
Default Monitor - (indicated as disabled via red icon)

Launch nVidia Control panel
Go into --- View System Topology - (bottom most listing).
Should look something like below.

Quadro FX 3700 (1 of 2)

DVI.........Connected ViewSonic VA2026w (1 of 4) (Manage EDID...)
DVI.........Connected ViewSonic VA2026w (2 of 4) (Manage EDID...)

and

Quadro FX 3700 (2 of 2) should show

DVI.........Connected ViewSonic VA2026w (3 of 4) (Manage EDID...)
DVI.........Connected ViewSonic VA2026w (4 of 4) (Manage EDID...)

If above is not the case - force the monitor on by exporting the EDID
file from one of the other monitors shown as connected, then importing this
file (what ever you named it) into the one that is not active or defined as
not connected.

Ensure before you hit apply (imported file) that Digital (DVI) is selected in the
Connector Type (Video Signal) dialog box.

Once this is completed. (all monitors shown as connected)
some may show forced
Go back to nVidia's main window then into - Set Up Multiple Displays

Vid Card #1

1. Select the graphics card with the displays you want to configure.
Select Quadro FX 3700 (1 of 2)

2. Choose the nView display mode to use.
Configured Independently from each other (Dualview)

3. Select the displays you would like to use.
ViewSonic VA2026w (1 of 4) + ViewSonic VA2026w (2 of 4)

4. Select the display you want Windows to use as primary.
ViewSonic VA2026w (1 of 4)


Vid Card #2

1. Select the graphics card with the displays you want to configure.
Select Quadro FX 3700 (2 of 2)

2. Choose the nView display mode to use.
Configured Independently from each other (Dualview)

3. Select the displays you would like to use.
ViewSonic VA2026w (3 of 4) + ViewSonic VA2026w (4 of 4)

4. Select the display you want Windows to use as primary.
ViewSonic VA2026w (1 of 4)

Hit apply and all should be good.

Not sure why some of the displays must be forced - however maybe a driver
or hardware issue with Quadro cards (who knows ?).

Both Cards in this machine flashed to HP's FX3700

This is what I figured out to work for me. Obviously you may have
different video cards and/or different monitors, however, the
procedure is what's important. Simply sub in what ever your
using in place of Veiwsonic and FX 3700
