What kind of gaming graphic card do they compare to?

For what? 3D works? video editing?
If you just doing some "light" tasks, then you can use gaming card like GTX460 or above, it still good to handle 3D works and good for gaming...

then yes, for autoCAD and solidworks you can use a gaming card like GTX460 or higher as long as it's from NVIDIA, their card is more capable to handle 3D works better than AMD cards...
