Lol. I was there when they announced this a few days back at quakecon. My buddy with a mac sitting right next to me. As a loyal linux fanboy i booed when OSX was mentioned, and wooted when Tux showed up on screen. I was the only one willing to be so obnoxious :)

BTW super excited. Open Arena is nowhere near as good.

Ive been playing it for 6 months, its fun. I'm 35 and played Quake, QII, an QIII back in my early 20's.

Impulse what are you, like 12? The game is older than you.......

Cool. I remember playing it on the first system I built with a K6-2 400, Aureal Vortex2, and TNT2 card. Now modern CPUs are so powerful they can run the whole thing in a browser. I remember I was mad when they stopped supporting A3D since I got good at judging how far around a corner someone was by their footsteps, but that advantage was gone when they got rid of A3D. Yeah I played that game way too much.

[citation][nom]zerapio[/nom]What do you mean, Q3A ran fine in Linux and Mac OS.I love iCTF!![/citation]

Q3A needed a CD Key to play. Quake Live is free for everyone.

Can Linux players and Mac players compete against PCs or does each OS have its own pool of servers/players

Pretty sure it's all vs all. Having they're own pools wouldn't make sense, since the packets don't know the difference.

That is pretty cool.. to bad the game isn't new

[citation][nom]Kithzaru[/nom]congrats, Mac and Linux folk can now play a 10 year old PC game?[/citation]Yes, just like they can play everything up to ET:QW since there are native versions available for those platforms. The source code for Quake 3 was released a long time ago and there are many free games based on it including Tremulous and Open Arena. When Id Tech 5 games are out for a while the Id Tech 4 engine (Doom 3, Quake 4) will be released and there'll be a lot of new games based on it.

Some people just like older games better. Many new games are all eye-candy without playability and the controls have gotten more complicated (like the dodging in Unreal Tournament).
