Did the upright Asteroids use a metal or plastic coin box?

I've had 2 different Asteroids machines, one had a small metal box, and
the other was missing the coin box, but the area for the box to sit in
was much bigger than the other.

My first run Asteroids had a plastic box with a metal slide on top.
