i have a verizon hotspot and i have a phone for sprint

the hotspot is 4g

the phone is 3g

when i go over 25gb on my hotspot the speed goes down to 40kbps at max

why is it that the hotspot at 40kbps gets better ping than my phone yet my phone internet speed is like 325kbps at max

could it be cause i tether my phone

Solution
3G and 4G are different technologies. 4G network just has better latency due to newer equipment and/or there is less traffic/noise on the frequency.

Varies by region, but generally speaking 3G is lower frequency between 900Mhz and 2.5Ghz. 4G operates at 2-8Ghz.

You might take notice that 3G can overlap with typical 2.4Ghz wireless networks, and all kinds of other commonly used frequencies.

Solution
Ping is not really closely related to bandwidth. If there was a overuse condition then packets can get delayed and ping would increase but in normal operation ping mostly measure distance. In the case of mobile broadband there is some built in delay because of the complexity of the technology being mobile. When you think about it that you can change cell towers and you ip stays the same and you do not get dropped it is fairly impressive.

I forget exactly why but 4g especially LTE has much lower latency ..ie ping time..than the older technologies. If you really want to know you are going to have to research how LTE works but the short answer to your question is that the newer technology is better.
