Hello there,

I recently i thought about changing the fan on my PSU - to make it silent - and i stumbled upon a thread saying how bad the brand Energon is, and how dangerous it is for your components.
For your information! In my current build i have a nearly 6 year old Inter-Tech ENERGON EPS-650W! Not kidding!

As i kept looking, i found more and more threads and discussion-forums where people warned people about not buying, from Energon, because it won't last, and when it dies, it takes the rest of the components with it!

I am considering getting a new PSU (Corsair something) - i just want to know... have i been incredibly lucky? I have upgraded my build completely multiple times, and just went on using the PSU, because it worked. Considering the only components that have failed for me the last 6 years has been one HDD?

Thanks :)

I'm not surprised, low quality PSU's or even no name generic tin box PSU's are capable of lasting years without an issue, but the risk of failure is obviously higher and when they fail they can take everything with it, I've even heard of them catching fire, hence I just wouldn't recommend them to anyone. It's just not worth the saving for the still small, but higher chance of it destroying your computer or worse.

Well, i think ill just upgrade the PSU, instead of the GPU for now. I rather want a reliable pc, than a beast pc with a dangerous chance of nuking itself making a black hole bringing the rest of humanity to death :)

With 4 x 18A (+12v) rails rated for 550W, it definitely has the specs to make it a good 650W PSU. As far as the quality of electrical components, can't say. But I see no reason it wouldn't be a good unit. Unless you have been having issues with it, or you need more power, there is no compelling reason to change it. I'm still using a XFX 850W PSU from about that same era.

Oh, but its still a good idea to change it soon anyways! :)

That's what the manufacturer's $ay, anyway. I'm not planning on changing mine anytime soon.
