Question about conversion from bits to bytes

I used speed test and got 50 mega bits per second. I tried re downloading tf2 and i was getting 80 kilo bytes, and I am using windows 7. Doesn't 8 mega bits equal 1 mega byte?

The connection can only go as fast as the slowest link in the chain. In your case the server you were downloading from could only sustain 80KB/sec at that moment.
