Hi I recently started buying components for a gaming pc. So far I got a antec 1200 V3 case, a I5 6600K, and a asrock extreme4 z170 mobo, but I cant make up my mind about a cpu cooler, buddy of mine says, I should go water cooling and I might do that. but I really like the idea of slapping in a Cryorig r1 ultimate. guess my question is will it fit while still having the side panel on. cause its pretty ginormus so I hear. any help u could give would be appreciated. thanks P.S budget is around $100-120

Solution
Cant find internal space for the case, external is 213mm. Typical internal space with mobo installed is 25-45mm less than the outer dimension.
Maybe someone who has one can confirm but the heat sink probably should fit (or be very very close).

proof that it fits in a 1200:

Im sure youve researched it already but:
Silver Arrow IB-E, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Phanteks PHTC14PE, and Noctua NH-D15 are tied as the #1 air coolers but $75 for a dual tower cooler is crazy cheap, price wont last.

The R1 maybe a one or two degrees cooler, the phantek a few decibels quieter, the difference really is not noticable, of the 4 i listed I recommend always getting the cheaper one

Solution

I found out somewhere that the 1200 case has 170mm cpu clearance I dunno about u but with the cryorig being 168.3mm tall that's a bit too close for me. bummer. I'll check out the ones u mentioned. thanks mate

The specs from the mfr. do not include the fans, which if you look at the pictures, sit slightly taller, if it is exactly 170 it wont fit unless you mount lower... losing some efficiency. No matter what, cant go wrong with the four I mentioned (there are probably a few more that are similar, just not as popular). All are much better than mid-range liquid coolers.

I personally love the Cryorig H5 Ultimate, its much better than the 120mm coolers like hyper 212, but close to half the size of the double tower coolers. Single tower is easier to deal with if you upgrade or fiddle around with the guts of your PC a lot.

ok one quick question my buddy deffinatly thinks liquid cooling is the way to go. and the one im also thinking about is the attatched url.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16835181103

just wondering if the fans would interfere with the asrock extreme4 z170 where it peeks out the back its strikes me as having a big behind.
but it can be mounted easily enough let me know your thoughts. thanks.

That corsair coolers perform just a little but worse than the dual tower metal coolers, but not a big difference. Its about as loud.
Pros: takes up less space
Cons: Water coolers can leak, the pumps can fail, they require maintenance

The solid metal heat sinks you install, blow out the dust once a year and never have to open the case otherwise. Not true of liquid cooling.

If you want liquid cooling for the sake of liquid cooling, go for it. It looks cooler, specially if you have a clear side panel and neon tubbing

... If you only care about cooling the cpu, go with the cheapest option 1-2 degrees does not matter (youll get that kind of variation just by how you apply thermal paste.

Here is a comparison of the D15 to some liquid coolers (the H100i GTX is a rebrand name of the H100i V2)
http://www.relaxedtech.com/reviews/noctua/nh-d15-versus-closed-loop-liquid-coolers/2

The kraken that came first in that review is a little bit cheaper than your H100i V2... something else to consider if you go liquid.

As far as fit... no clue

ok im convinced air cooling is the way to go. thanks for the help man
just a follow up query do all these have the same demensions cause the blackones pipes seem longer
(i prefer black to white) thanks again

Those phantek are all identical except for color, the colors were Phantek's gimic to draw people away from the slighlty better performing noctuna, Back when both were $120. Noctuna's heatsink's are all brown and beige www.vortez.net/index.php?ct=articles&action=file&id=18203
... horrible

Heads up though: The phantek may be a a little bit smaller than the noctuna or cryorig, but they are still huge, itll cover 80-90% of the mobo above the video card dealing with cables after its mounted is going to be very aggravating. That's something you don't have to deal with using liquid cooling.

it does come with a a short fan cable splitter, plug that (and everything else) into the mobo before mounting the heatsink,, its still a little aggravating working with something so big in a space so small. Its going to be an irritating 20min

If you dont already own some the thermal paste, the paste it comes with is the same as what comes with the noctuna, really good stuff, no need to buy a different one

K thanks man will go the phantek route. appreciate the help will raise a toast to u with my buddies tomorrow.

your welcome. Smart fiscal choice. (I bought the last 2 blue ones-as that price is crazy low)

Some final thoughts: The phantek should be enough to make sure heat isnt your limiting factor in your Over clock, if you got an amazing chip and it can handle above normal voltages options available

1)swapping out the phantek stock fans (89cfm) with even higher >103 CFM fans will get you another 4°-8° off your load temps.
2)Unlike the Noctuna the Phantek is fully capable of mounting a third fan. any tripple fan config will get you another (itll get another 1°-4°C from load temps)

I put a pair of scythe fans on my phantek, dropped 7°C, but sounded like a jet engine, had to change back.

Good luck with you overclock
