Hey, I'm building a new PC and tossing up between the h110 and h170 motherboards.

I've done a bit of research and some people have been saying that if you don't need more than 16gb of ram then the h110 will be fine.

Can I put one 16gb stick in now and then when the time comes to upgrade bang another 16gb stick in? Why are people saying that you can't have more than 16gb in them?

Thanks for any explanation, I'm brand new to all this haha

The chipset makes no difference to supported RAM since the memory controller is in the CPU.

What you do lose with h110 vs h170 is PCIe3 lanes from the PCH and support for DMI3 between the PCH and CPU.

If you put in one 16GB DIMM now and another one later, you may have compatibility issues between the two DIMMs due to different chips and PCBs. You will also be taking a performance hit from having half the memory bandwidth the CPU is optimized for.
