I'm not sure if I'm in the right area of these forums to be asking this but it said Displays..... if I'm not just tell me where to go....

Anyways I'm looking at monitors that are $200 or less and I have been pushed towards two by users on another forum. One is an IPS monitor the other a TN. I was just wondering which you guys would go with for gaming. I noticed the IPS was 5 ms and the TN 2 ms, I was told this didn't matter much and they said go with the IPS. Just wondering other people opinions on the subject.

The TN monitor

at under $200 its probably an e-ips monitor.

still better than a TN any day of the week, but still middle of the road. 8bit ips panels are better but are much more expensive.

at response times that low there isnt any real difference. some people claim they see something but i think its just their mind making them think they are. my old 8bit ips is 16ms and i never saw ghosting so either of those two you picked shouldnt ghost at all.

read the reviews on each if you havent already but personally i'd go with the better of the two.

TN has better response time and input lag, but low image quality.
IPS has better image quality, but not good response time and input lag.

To be honest, I dont have any experience in either, so I dont know how much reponse time and lag IPS has.

Lag varies between monitor models. There is no standard, but it is generally accepted that TN panel can have low input lag. However, that does not mean it is totally true, just what most people assume.

There is generally little difference between 2ms and 5ms response times.

TN panels are generally inexpensive to manufacture therefore, these types of monitors are inexpensive. However, they have limited viewing angles and even shifting your head can lead some color changes on the monitor. Well, at least for me it is easy to see.

IPS panels are generally expensive to manufacture. However, e-IPS panels are basically not as complex to manufacture than other traditional IPS panel types (S-IPS, H-IPS, P-IPS). They are relatively inexpensive to produce and can compete with TN panels. Viewing angles are not a wide as traditional IPS panels, but they are wider than TN panels. Therefore, color shifting will not be as dramatic as on a TN panel monitor.

Between the two panel types I would go with e-IPS. However, I prefer the other more expensive IPS panel technologies to e-IPS.
