Question about overclocking AMD 5800K, trying to get it to run 2133 ram

So I have some RAM advertised as running at 2133

My motherboard is an fm2-a75MA-E35, and my processors a 5800k.

I got advice from ARIES tech support saying I need to overclock my my CPU/NB voltage +.1V. Doing so will make give enough juice to the memory controller to make it run stable at 2133.

The only setting that seems related that my motherboard lets me change is the CPU/NB ratio, in which case I don't know how that effects voltage. I tried an automatic overclock but the RAM wont run at 2133. The screen is just a blur of pixels, but ti runs fine at 1866 with or without the automatic overclock.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Your motherboard may not support a 2133Mhz overclock. But with this one it seems that it does. Try doing a BIOS update, to this one here. Then try going into the overclocking setting, or download an aftermarket memory overclocking program like AMD overdrive. You can adjust your NB and MEM voltage from there. If this solves your question, please pick it as the solution.

Thanks for the advice, I should've made this a discussion though...

I have the latest version of the BIOS so its not that, I did download AMD overdrive and upped both the CPU VID AND NB VID by the suggested amounts, I'm gonna check now to see if the memory runs stable. It's my first overclock so im kinda worried but we'll see.

I would take it a little at a time, slowly upping the voltage. Run a stress test every time you change it. Watch your temps. Other than that have a good time! If you would also please pick a solution that would be great! Thanks!

I've been upping the voltage bit by bit until both cpu and nb voltage are up by about .2v. When I save the settings it seems to be running fine but when I reset and change the RAM frequency in BIOS to 2133 I still get an error message. I'm kind of out of ideas at this point.

See how close you can get to 2133 without an error. Chage the RAM voltage too.

So my ram frequency is at 980ish which means the ram is running at a little under 2000mhz frequency, which is (I think) because I'm running the automatic overclock from Bios. I have options for changing memory settings in AMD overdrive but I have no idea what they mean lol so I'm gonna leave them alone until the future. I picked a best answer just because you put a lot fo effort into helping so I really do appreciate it, if I figure it out I'll post what I did on here.

Also my brother has an amd a10-7850k and he got it to run 2400 mhz with the same RAM I'm using and I think his max is supposed to be 2133 but he found some settings on a youtube video that seemed to work for him.

Thank you for picking a solution! The Overdrive settings are for changeling the latency and timing. Very advanced stuff. Good that you did not screw around with them!
