Question Question about PCI-e lanes

Hi

Due partly to the size of my GPU and partly because of the size of the heatsink of the WLAN card I am about to mount in my system, the only slot I am able to place it in are the second X16 slot on my motherboard. The two X1 slots are covered.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite. The question I have is if the performance of the GPU will be staggered by plugging said WLAN card into the second x16 slot, due to lanes being capped.

Otherwise I must find another solution.

As soon as you populate the second PCIe x16 slot with any device, regardless of how many lanes it actually needs, that signals the chipset to allocate 4 lanes to the second slot. Are you sure you can't resort to an USB driven wifi adapter to cater to your networking needs or even the Ethernet port?
