Recently got a 3080ti, and I plan on upgrading my cpu from a 3600 to a 5800x. Currently my 650w Corsair power supply is supporting the 3080ti, but, once I throw in the 5800x will it start to crash? I don’t plan on over clocking until I get a 1000w unit.
Thanks, Dylan.

3080Ti is 350W on its own. That leaves you 300W for everything else, not just the CPU.

If you are only doing the same activities, the 5800X should actually be more efficient. But it has the capacity to draw more power certainly.

You can always play it safe. Artificially limit the 3080Ti to like 290W. It will still be pretty fast.

Hey there,

Well, it all depends on what Corsair 650w you have. Please list the make and model PSU, but also your full PC specs. We can't guestimate until we know more.

The min requirement for a 3080ti is a 750w, and that needs to be a stellar one. However, RTX 3xxx cards have issues with transient power spikes, so the GPU can at times suck in about 500w, just for the GPU. Now, this only happens for a split second but can trip overprotections on even good quality PSUs.

I'd suggest a Corsair RMX850 to be on the safe side. They are known to handle transient power spikes very well.
