Question Question about Seagate PCB replacement/repair. Not powering up.

This is an older drive. I stopped getting power a while ago. I don't recall ever hearing any clicking like you'd expect with total drive failure. When I plugged it in recently no sound at all but the drive got very hot and there was a burning smell. Now I get nothing when I plug it in. And there appears ti be a burnt area on the PCB. All this tells me it's likely I could recover the data by replacing the PCB or removing the diode on the existing PCB.

I'm trying to get two questions answered.

1. I believe my drive has been over-volted and I know from a separate thread that the diode can be removed. Can someone point out what diode I am supposed to remove.

2. If this doesn't work I've identified the correct board for $44 but I've seen in two different forums that the BIOS chip needs to be transferred from the old board to the new board. I'm not clear on which is the BIOS chip. Pic is available here:

Any help greatly appreciated!

Your picture didn't parse through. Host your image on a site akin to Imgur and then pass on a link for us to see.

Perhaps this video;

will help you get closer to the BIOS chip's location.

IMHO, since you're a novice and if the data is valuable, I'd locate a professional data recovery specialist and not tamper with the drive.
I'm not exactly a novice. This is an easy fix I think. View: https://imgur.com/a/trNDFfg
