Question about transferring the OEM version of Windows 8 to a new Motherboard

I'm planning on replacing my CPU & motherboard sometime within the next year. I originally bought and installed Windows 8 OEM (through newegg) and now it's running 8.1 since it's release.

Will I have to re-purchase Windows if I were to install a different motherboard or can it transfer?

Your operating system is stored on your hard drive / SSD. As long as you keep the same drive(s) you will keep your windows version.

You will probably (99.5%) need to reinstall windows on your new platform because windows gets all messed up if you swap around stuff like that. You will probably just need to reactivate it when you install it on your new platform. Worse case a quick call to Microsoft and you will be all good to go.
