Have a 2tb Seagate hdd right now being used for some games and some storage.
I will be installing a 2tb nvme to replace it.

My thought is to install it and set it as the E:.
Can I transfer the contents of the old D: drive to the new E: drive then remove the old drive and rename the new drive to D:?

Will the installed programs work now that they are on a drive with the same letter?

I'm expecting it's not that easy at all and any installed program will need to be reinstalled but i'm hoping i'm wrong.

bonus question: will the screw be on the motherboard to secure the new nvme or do I need to find one?

Thanks folks.

Look at the mobo and see if it has a standoff and a screw.

Western Digital Blue SN5000

The screw will be on the mobo already then? I don’t need to go find one?

Do you have a preferred way to clone it?

Thanks
I clone from source to a NVMe external case. Slow and takes ~
about an hour for a 2TB SSD. USB 20GB/s runs at x2.
The easy lazy old fart way for me. https://www.easeus.com/partition-manager/
