I am going to take the groups advice and just build a new computer, (a
friend is going to help this weekend).
a) ANTEC Series ATX Mid-Tower Case 350W Power Supply
b) ASUS Motherboard (Intel 865pe Chipset, FSB 800MHz,Dual DDR
400, Gigabit Ethernet Lan)
"I ordered this Board from Gateway"
c) Intel Pentium 4/2.4C GHz , 800MHzFSB , 512K Cache , Hyper
Threading Technology
d) Two Kingston 512 DDR PC 3200 sticks of RAM
e) Samsung 16X DVD-ROM, 48xCD ROM
f) Samsung 1.44 3.5 Floppy
g) Samsung CD-RW 52x-24x-52x
h) Two Western Digital 80Gig Hard Drives
I plan to use the W D 80gig Hard Drive that is in my old Gateway PII 400 as
the Master Hard Drive in the new computer.
My question...would it be better if I reformat this Hard Drive and reload my
Programs and Documents to it or will I run in to any problems just putting
it in the new computer and using it as the Master?

Thanks for any help or advice

your gonna need a video card too.

make sure the RAM is certified for the motherboard. don't buy the cheap
stuff.

you might want to replace the stock CPU fan with a Zalman.

need some of this too:

for a few bucks more you might want to consider the P42.8E processor if the
motherboard supports it:

You will need to reinstall Windows on the drive when you move it to the new
system.

Depending on the operating system, you won't be able to re-use your Gateway
OS CD if it's a late version of 98, or WIndowsME or 2000 (OEM). I would
strongly suggest you purchase a copy of WIndows XP for this system in
preference to using DOS (95/98/ME) on it - though Windows 2000 should also
run fine.

Thanks for the advice and a special thanks to Mr. Neth, and yes I did order
the mother board from Gateway.

Fed X just delivered the stuff I ordered. (Feel like a Kid at Christmas)

Should I reformat the 80 gig Hard Drive and reinstall Win 2000 before I take
it out of the old Gateway?

Not necessary - you can do that as part of the installation on the new
system (in fact, that's the preferable way to do it).
