Hey.

I'm pretty new to OC, never done it before to a CPU. But since I got an 8700k, I decided it was stupid not to do it (waste of money for a letter K).However, the CPU is still very expensive for my taste, so I don't want to risk too much.

That's why I'd appreciate if more experienced users can run the numbers and tell me, if I'm in a safe zone.

I OC'ed it to 5ghz, only thing I did, was change core clock and uncore clock in BIOS to 50.
After about 15 mins of CPUz stress test, the CPU temp stabilized at around 84c, VRM temp at 42, Vcore at 1,36v. Am I safe to continue, is there any other warning I should look for? I ran at full fan speed, which is obviously not sustainable (2xAP181, 2xAP122, Noctua 15 PWM).

Added a screenshot to provide more info.

Thanks.

Something is wrong with the cpu-z score on screen. The normal score for 5ghz i7 8700K is around 4300 points not 987.7. Maybe some kind of throttle.

Thanks all. It is a bit weird. It benches lower then reference 8700k on single thread - 541/550, and barely above on multi - 3900/3700. Also, the temps at 87c are taken from afterburner highest core temp (between 82 and 87), Gigabyte shows the package at 77C. Seems I'll need to get some reading done.

Maybe it isn't as stable as you might think. I would suggest stating with 5ghz@1.35V and if it works lower the voltage by 0.005 each time and test again until you see some weird things. Then just stay with last working volatge.

Stock 8700K specs are all-core operation at 4.3 GHz, not 5 GHz...undoubtedly, 1.37V is massively contributing to your temps...

as 85C is way too warm, and that's just CP:U-Z/stress, which although is as stressful as any game could ever be, is less stressful than Prime95, so, perhaps a compromise of all-core 4.7 GHz would be a nice place to start...try 1.3V, then 1.28V, etc...

No need to start testing at Golden Altar of 5 GHz instantly... :) (Not all 8700K's even hit it with complete stability, and, in your case, temps might quickly be an issue...)

Your MB might have some 95 Watt TDP limits interfering with your efforts that might need to be disabled to prevent throttling....(proceed at your own risk)
