So I'm looking to sell my FX 8320 and Asus Sabertooth 990x R 2.0. Just for longevity and personal want I am looking to switch over to an Intel chip and mobo. So what are your thoughts? I'm thinking i5 I doubt I need an OC but If I could it wouldn't be bad. I figure I can sell my two pieces for an absolute minimum of 150. So with the 100 I would get from my parent at christmas (I may be 20 but they still help) my budget looks to be around 250 minimum and I'd say 350 max. What would you recommend as a combo?

Easy. 2 of the CPU's I listed are on sale at Amazon for less than $200, and there are probably cheaper places than Amazon on those, and there are Z97 motherboards out there in the $125 range that are pretty nice. Look at AsRock and Gigabyte motherboards. pcpartpicker is great for finding low prices, but you still need to dig around and find the options on the motherboards you want.

Games on AMD are seeming to do a LOT better under Direct X 12 vs Direct X 11, sometimes almost double. If you are wanting to upgrade for future games that haven't come out yet, you may not need to upgrade. If you just want all your games faster, even current ones then go for that i5 :). When I say games, I mean the pretty limited information and demos we have seen so far. AMD is doing almost as good as Nvidia on DX 12, while their DX 11 drivers SUCK.

Well currently it does work great. I am having huge issues with only one game CS:GO it plays like crap. Screen lag like crazy and what not. Every other game is amazing. The only other issue I have is that my cooler covers two of my ram slots so I will have to work that out one day too.

Everyone will benefit. Once the games come out. Every video card. Every integrated graphics. Everyone.

But until the games come out, which only 1 or 2 are expected this year, and maybe 10 next year, and most of those late next year, we are all still stuck with DX11.

I spent many years running AMD CPU's. And finally, in May of last year, I got my first Intel CPU in close to 20 years. And I am still blown away by how fast this system is.
