I am paying off a Moto x second gen bought through AT&T, if were to finish paying it off and ask AT&T to unlock my phone like if I were to switch providers would this essentially turn my phone into the unlocked developer edition where I could get rid of AT&T bloat?

This is probably a good thing you might want to check out. It will completely remove all traces of At&T from your phone

Yeah, like I said before, to actually remove AT&T from your phone, you are going to have to reflash to a clean version of Android. You might want to wait for 5.0 to come out as it would be a pain to backup again just to update to that. Also, when you reflash, the phone will be automatically unlocked.

Nowhere in your response did you say that. Did you try to include a link?

hmm, YES I DID. I was including a link. Don't know why it's not there. Here is the link: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-flash-a-rom-to-your-android-phone-30885281

Im aware of that option and as much as I don't like AT&T's bloat I wouldn't go as far as to root the phone. I really was just wondering if this was possible or not. I do know that lollipop has a feature which allows companies such as AT&T to automatically install their apps but still allow the customer to uninstall them afterwards hopefully they end up using this.

Why do you not want to root the phone? It is easily reversible and is pretty simple if you know what you are doing.
