Question regarding VLC Media Player

I use VLC for all video files, I temporarily removed VLC and switched to the default W10 video player but then went back to VLC. Now, the video files show the VLC cone instead of a screenshot of the video. To show what I mean:

If anyone can help be get this to stop displaying the cone that'd be great. I have tried reboots and restarting Windows Explorer

I know how to change the default app, thought it was clear what I was asking

The cone is a remnant of the prior default settings. Changing may fix the display problem.

Also, are the file extensions, in the folders both displayed with and without the cone, the same type?

Stuff that was already there has a screenshot. Anything I get now has the cone and have gotten MP4 and MKV stuff so it's not just one extension. I'll try switching to a different app then switching back

Nope, didn't do anything. And as I was doing it I rememebred that have tried that already

Exactly, change the default app for both file extensions, from one app to the other, as desired. Should clean that up.

Got me then. I just switched my file associations, as an experiment, and it worked as expected. Odd.

Would it matter if I switched every file extension it's associated with?

Well that's odd. I downloaded an AVI file and it doesn't show the cone. That's one of the extensions I switched

I tried that. Now every AVI/MP4 file has a screenshot and every MKV has a cone
