Question Question Why does my 980 pro 2tb samsung ssd slow down so much when decompressing zip folders?

My ssd will slow down to tens of kilobytes per second when decompressing folders (specifically cinebench r23 and cinebench 2024) I am on windows 11. I know that there is a bug that slows down ssd performance on windows 11 but it shouldn't slow down that much right?

It could be its lots of little files, speed of nvme slows down depending on file sizes.

I should run 2024 to have a score to compare against the 5800x3d when i install it.

I should also mention that it happens typically near the end of the decompression. You wouldn't think it would slow down that much though.

970 Evo performed same way. its 1.2gb download but extracts out to 2.35gb, that would have a lot to do with it.

my GPU seems to do well in test... seems more people need to run for comparisons

its double what my 2070 Super can do.

The big numbers you see on benchmarks is only for ideal conditions: 1 large data stream, multiple command queues. Normal file operations almost never hit this.

I know that but the reason I said that is because I had ruled out any thermal issues by seeing that the SSD hit about 60C in the benchmark.

When I ran the test, I just went and did something else for a while. for comparison, my CPU gets about 21000 in cinebench r23.

it wasn't in high demand at launch, and i don't think they made that many. That price is silly. No one should pay that much. CPU only cost about 300 new.

I didn't even know it existed until I saw it mentioned somewhere a couple of weeks ago. It would be really confusing if AMD were to release a 7800xt cpu.

That was me then as well. We were talking about 7800xt probably.

I don't know why they went mad and used XT on anything other than their GPU. Hopefully they don't again.

Next thing you know there will be a 7900xtx CPU. If the 7800xt CPU becomes a thing I can imagine someone builds a PC with a 7800xt CPU and a 7800xt gpu.

Some laptop makers name all their models with the same model number. It doesn't help if you don't know that and search the code thinking you will find right one... instead there are 7 or more different laptops all with same codes. GL finding right one...

So its not just AMD, they don't do it every year.

That seems kinda low considering my 4070 Ti can get ~19,000

I was going to say that the CPU shouldn't matter, because this is a GPU test, and factoring in the CPU wouldn't necessarily make it a GPU test.

But I ran Process Explorer on it while it was running and it does have a single thread occupying an entire core's worth of CPU time while it runs. It does have a brief moment of something like 10+ threads in the beginning of each run, presumably compiling the work to send off to the GPU to do.

The 3600xt was just another 3600x might of been a bit better bin or they just maxed out the speed.

3600x 4.4 turbo 1 core 4.2 all cores.
3600xt 4.5 one core 4.5 all cores.
