I currently own a custom pc from pcspecialists but I want to upgrade the cpu, which needs a new motherboard, which needs a new psu, etc. So I'm just buying a whole new pc from scratch; getting all the components separately. I just have a few specific questions about some ideas I have (if they'll work) and some potential incompatibilities.
1. My current pc has an SSD with Windows 10, games and applications, and an HDD which just has files and applications. I'm prepared to do a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD and wipe everything that's on the drive. I'm wondering if I plug in this SSD (as is) into my new pc as my main drive, will Windows 10 prompt a clean install or would it blue screen and need some external installation process? And I'm aware of and prepared for all the reactivation stuff so no need to explain any of that.
2. Continuing on from question 1, can I plug in my HDD into my new pc without needed to format it or make any changes? And can I plug the HDD in while I'm building the pc or will it be smarter to only plug it in after I've set up my new pc and installed windows?
3. On pcpartspicker I wanted a 'Cooler Master Hyper 212X CPU Cooler' and a 'Gigabyte X470 Aorus' motherboard but it was saying as a potential issue that the cooler may not fit the motherboard correctly and may hence need a 'separately available mounting adapter'. It seemed to say this for any cpu cooler I picked so... Is this actually going to be an issue or does pcpartspicker say this for all cpu coolers regardless?
4. How necessary are extra case fans? With a Ryzen 7 1800X cpu, a cpu cooler, an existing case fan and a GTX 1080, would anyone recommend more case fans? Not planning on ever overclocking. My room can get quite hot in the summer (around 25-30 celcius) though I don't tend to use my current pc when it's this hot and, it being England it's usually no hotter than 20.
5. Out of curiosity, what would be the best way to go about selling my current pc? I'm thinking ebay, but not sure if to sell if part by part, or as a whole. The drawback of the former is that I may end up stuck with some parts no one wants and could potentially get more selling it as a whole. On the other hand, I'm not sure how to go about postage if collection isn't an option. Are there special ways to send out pcs? For the heck of it specs are: AMD fx-8350, gtx 1060 6gb, 2x8gb ram, 450w psu, will have no disk drives. Most components are 25 months old and seem to be in perfect working condition, but the gpu is younger at about 22 months. I've never overclocked, I take breaks often and never game for more than 3 hours straight in a day, if I did game at all. Otherwise it's just general use, game development in Unity, etc. For about 2-8 hours a day.
I think I'll just offer collection only anyway but I would like some input on this from anyone with experience selling an old pc.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
