Hi!

Currently building a PC for someone, haven't done that in a long time so I'm a bit out of the loop hardware-wise. Looking for any kind of feedback on the following build. Was wondering a few particular things:

1) We went for a DDR5 build so they could upgrade it long term. Is it worth to splurge a bit for CL30 instead of CL36? Seen people advocate for both sides.
2) Would it be worth it to get an AMD build so it's supported for longer? If so, what CPU / mobo should I go for?
3) Is it worth it to get a better GPU? If so, what? 6750, 7700?
4) Any places where this build is susceptible to bottleneck?
5) Is stock cooler sufficient for this or should I get another one?

I would shoehorn a non-K, non-F suffix processor to have an iGPU in case you end up having to troubleshoot display issue from your discrete GPU.

is my edit of your build, the smaller capacity SSD is meant to have the OS on it, while the larger SSD is to serve as the game's library drive. The mechanical drive is for storage on miscellaneous content. I would add an aftermarket cooler to round off the build.

What sort of a budget have you been given for your build?

Thanks for the pointers, that's really helpful! Budget is between 1300 - 2000 CAD, so a bit of leeway still. They don't really play anything crazy demanding nor want 120 FPS / Ultra on everything, so just looking to put together something good that'll last for a decent time (and there's still the monitors to buy so I'd rather not go too high).

RAM; i wouldn't get in a major lather about it, but you might want to look at first word latency. A first word latency of 10 can be achieved with DDR5 6800/CAS 34 or with DDR 5 6000/CAS 30 or DDR 5 5600/CAS 28.

6000/36 has a first word latency of 12.

I'd be antsy with speeds above maybe 6000 to 6400, but maybe you are willing to fiddle with settings endlessly or take risk of having to exchange RAM if board complains.

Maybe accept first word latency a bit above 10 to ease your anxiety?

AMD might be a consideration if the owner is prone to replacing CPU more often than motherboard.

Stock cooler likely OK if indifferent to noise and not overly anxious about temps.

I'd probably lean toward a 13400 not 13400F to get the integrated graphics.

WD 4 TB spinner is OK if you need 4 TB. If you can accept 2 TB, I'd probably avoid spinning drives entirely.

Opinion.....change the 970 to 500GB....change the 13400f to 13400.

Since you have some leeway, this setup gives you more room for upgrades later down the line.

Get the 7800XT - 500 USD starting
