Hello,

I recently upgraded my network. I'am now using multiple switches on my network. A friend told me that it's better to buy a Gigabit switch, which I did. But is this even worth it? because the cable that's connecting my modem with my switch only gives an orange light( 100mbps ). I looked it up, and indeed the provided speed is 100 Mbps.

My limited knowledge about the network, is that when you got an input in your switch providing Mbps, you can only use 100 Mbps total devided on the active ports.
So... normally a 200 mbps should have done the job?

Thanks!

A gigabit switch may not speed your WAN connectivity but it WILL speed your LAN connectivity. If you have a NAS or are using a PC to stream data, the gigabit switch will help. If you have to go to the router for wireless, then you are limited. A wireless router that is still 100mb only won't have N throughput capabilities any way.
