Suddenly, Kish, drunk as a lemur, stumbled out of the darkness and

Potions are great, I usually try to use at least one in every fight. If
you just save them for boss battles, you'll have so many you won't have
space for anything else.

Some suggestions:

Stat boosters -
Higher strength raises your chances to hit and increases the damage you do
in melee. (drink just before combat)
Higher dex lowers your armor class and raises your chance to hit with
ranged weapons. (drink just before combat)
Higher int makes it easier to write scrolls into your spellbook and
increases the number of spells your book will hold. (drink before writing
scrolls into your spellbook)

Defensive -
Resistance to cold works great against winter wolves.
Resistance to fire - There's a couple of things that give you fire
resistance and they're cumulative. Load your tank up on fire resistance,
have him run forward to melee, then cast fireball at him. If his
resistance is above 100%, you'll actually heal him.

Other-
There's some tough traps and locks in the game, make sure your thief keeps
some master thieving/perception potions.
Oil of speed is just great.
Potions of heroism/power are also very useful in combat.
Oil of explosions/firey burning(?) - do I really need to say anything about
these?

Now there are some potions I sell automatically, like stone form, or any of
the anti-magic potions.

I appreciate all the help everyone has been giving me and the side
discussions that developed. This game isn't exactly what i was looking for
to kill my boredom. It is much too complcated and dare i say, difficult for
my current state of mind. I was looking for some light adventuring and is
why i went with an old game. As it turns out, i or one of my party is
constantly dying... there are so many items in the game that i can never
decide what i should do... etc.

Are there any games that would qualify as an 'easy' or 'light' BG type game?

I must admit however that it has got hold of my addictive nature and i will
probably never give up on it completely.

I like Icewind Dale more than the Baldur's Gate series. Less quests, more
monsters, completely linear, less playing time to complete. It is also
party oriented, there is no central character. It even has pre-rolled
characters for a quick start.
