I have a desktop I built about six years ago that I use in my little home studio for recording music, but lately I've noticed it's very loud and seems to have gotten louder recently. This is obviously bad for recording music, so after tinkering a bit, it seems the power supply is just a lot louder than it used to be (could be in my head but either way it's too loud for what I need at this point). The case fans are negligible and the CPU fan is slightly louder but not too bad.
The PSU fans also make a slight and consistent clicking noise that I never notice before while they seem to be running at high speed all the time, as well. They're pushing a lot of air out the back that doesn't feel too hot, just warm, but at those speeds they're very loud. I figure it might be time for a replacement.
I've never had power issues over these six years and I believe it's a <600 watt PSU, so something in the 600+ range should be fine. I'm mostly concerned about noise but price is also a factor. I'm sure I won't find anything decent in the $50 range but over $100 would probably be pushing it. Is this wishful thinking price-wise? Any recommendations without killing the bank account?
Thanks for your advice.
