Hi,
I'm trying to silence my computer piece by piece.
Next up is the PSU.
What do i need to know regarding ambient noise and PSUs?

I'm running a 980ti so i don't think a fanless PSU is an option for me at this time.

So far i've figured out i need a minum of 850w.
I'm not sure if Bronze v Gold v Platinum will make a difference to the overall ambient noise?

Are there any brands are models you'd recommend over others regarding being as quiet as possible?
Thankyou,
J

TheCorsair AX860 (p/n: CP-9020046), which is made by Seasonic, is fanless up to 60% load, but produces ~29dBA at full load (due to 120mm DBB fan's max. speed at 2,150rpm).

The Corsair RM850i (p/n: CP-9020083), made by CWT, is also quiet (fanless up to 40% load). Produces ~12dBA at 50% and only ~21dBA at full load (due to 120mm FDB fan's max. speed of only 950rpm).

Thanks for the replies.

What would you recommend out of:
Corsair AX860
Corsair RM850
EVGA Supernova 850 W G3
EVGA SuperNova 850 W P2

All seem to be nice and quiet. I expect some noise when under load - as i do game using my MSI 980ti.
However when i'm not gaming, just surfing the internet, listening to music i'd really like my computer as quiet as possible.

Is there any advantage in looking for a PSU with a larger fan than 120mm? Or will one of the above suffice?

Cheers,
J

one final question:
Would there be any advantage in me going for the 1000w EVGA SuperNova model over the 850w one? For instance will the 1000watt model remain fanless in eco mode under higher usage - when gaming for instance?
There's quite a big price difference - £133 vs £216

Here's my current setup. I may be upgrading the ram and CPU and probably motherboard at some point.
i7-4790k,
MSI 980 ti,
16GB ram,
Sabertooth mark II motherboard,
WINDOWS 10
SSD
3tb WD Red
