Actualy the hit is much less on the Xenos because there is front buffer. Look at B3D's review...

So depending on implementation it could be less or more, to completely replace all memory that would be one hell of a transistor count and a heck of a large package to accomodate both.

Replacing all the memory wouldn't work, like you said way too expensive and wouldn't be faster but using the eDRAM just for AA, AF and framebuffer could be quite beneficial.

Not really good for anything but you cant help smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

The Inquirer says that the 15th is the official launch date for Crossfire.

Yeah I agree that would be nice, it would still limit max somewhat though, but would give almost free low end.

It would be like starting at 4X and then adding the extra levels beyond that, sort of a new baseline.

The 15ht of Septembre is SOoo far away. I mean seriously I am a little dissapointed that it's taking so long.

I still think the technology is for primarily upgrade path consideration, especially since we're going to keep 90nm for a while, but if they were looking to sell the concept of the upgrade it would've made more sense to bring it out before people saw the GF7800GTX IMO. The market is still open for current owners who will add a crossfire card to their existing cards, but they are going to have to do some pretty sweet pricing in order to even have people consider that instead of selling their cards and buying a GF7800GT or the like (even the competition from ATi will cause havoc with that as we mentioned the first time we discussed the R520 cutting into Xfired-850 sales.

Personally I'd be far more interested in the price/performance of the new XL than the Xfire stuff.

I prefer multi-monitor for multi-cards, Xfire and SLi still don't have the criticall 'killer-app' mass for me to give it more than a technological 'cool idea' nod.
