Hey guys - there are so many plugged in people here, I never get the chance to be the guys to break the scoop. Maybe that will change with this post. Here is a link to a site with some R600 prices. The R600 looks like a good deal. I'm sorry if this has been posted already but I went back about 24 hours in the Graphics card forum and didnt see it. Good Reading I hope.

Those are great prices if correct (and if the performance is great as well) however there's just no way to be sure if these are accurate or not.

Sounds realistic. Of course I'm also sure that those prices would be per 1000 units. It's still highly likely that the debut price on these things will be closer to 600 than 500.

If top of the line R600 is only $500, with the embeded sound chip and all, it would seem to me performance will not be above the 8800GTX. I mean if such a card was available today, it would be worth an easy $600 if it held the performance crown. I would expect the second best card to be $500 (say an XT) while the best card (XTX) would be $600. Also, no talks of the XL model. I'm hoping there are 3 - X2900's at launch covering the $350, $500, and $600 range.

Yea. kinda like with two 8800s.

You can have your choice in a certain price range.

There are also reports that they might release a full line up, including low and mid range cards like X2600.

I wonder how that x2600 will perform, ATI's track record in the mid range sector hasn't been that good since the 9550Pro and the 9600xt!

Yeah, the 9500 pro owned the midrange at launch, but it seems since then ATI's initial midrange card lacks, forcing them to put out a late refresh to compete. If you count X1900GT, X1950 pro as midrnage, ATI is owning. But if we just talk about their 600 line ( x600, x1600) then yeah I agree, they play catchup. Right now X1650 pro and X1650XT are nice cards, but they should have released that way back instead of putting X1600XT up against the 7600GT. X1650 competes well, X1600 did not.

I hope the trend stops and that X2600's are a good match for GF8600's. having the GF86xx launch at the same time we will never see a repeat of the 9500 pro. But I hope it's a trade blows situation between them and ATI doesn't start behind and need a X2650 or X2700 to try and get a piece of that market.

Pretty good "out loud" thoughts to be sure.

I for one am sort of excited if these prices are true because while Intel is putting the chokehold on AMD for CPU price/performance maybe, just maybe, the ATI part of AMD is attempting to pull the same thing on Nvidia.
If this is the case and it is at least a tiny bit better than the 8800GTX then there might be some at least small price war in GPUs like the current CPU price war. This benefits us, the consumer, in the end so I'm very hopeful this will happen while not holding my breath either.

The price may also reflect better yields from the smaller process size. I really can't see this thing getting outpeformed by G80 parts. If that happens....well, AMD will be hurtin' for certain.

Very true. If they waited this long and didn't 1up Nvidia it would look pretty bad for them indeed. Just speculation but still a nice idea for us consumers if it were to turn out that way.

Well, what drivers for Vista DON'T suck? Pretty much all of them, it's not like the G80 is alone. It'd be safer and more accurate to say that Vista Driver Support sucks.

A $300 jump between r630 and r600? wtf? That's bad strategy by AMD

There had better be a large difference in performance and features to justify that price difference. We'll never know for sure until actual benches and specifications are published. WHen that happens, who knows? The price difference may be worth it.

true, but ATi seems to have vista drivers down pretty well .....

I just hate buying a product without seeing what the competition has to offer. G80 still doesn't deliver exceptional high res Oblivion performance either.... not that I have seen anyway! Don't get me wrong, if R600 is a flop, I'll buy a G80.

Of course, my x1950 handles everything decently well, Oblivion still puts a chokehold on it at my res

I was going by the benchmarks I had seen... like the ones here at toms (which barely have it getting over 30 at 1600x1200 with no AA)

Not once did I take a stab at you, not once did I call you a name! Your e-penis must be growing... I mean, you already have an SLI 8800 GTX setup that costs more then my whole computer put together. There is no way I could justify the kinda cash it takes to run something like that.

I was going by the things I had seen and heard. So what, maybe what I have seen was wrong, or maybe it was posted by noobs. That still gives you no right to attempt to belittle me! Don't talk to me like I am a freakin child!
