i purchased a new VTX3D R9 270x 2GB. it was working up till now and now the fans of the graphics card are spinning but there is no display detected on the monitor. when i connect the VGA output directly without installing the graphics card into the slot, the display is detected. Is there a possibility that my graphics card has some problem or is it the motherboard ?

Could be a driver issue, if you have access to another gpu try that to rule out your mobo. If not connect your cable direct to your mobo and check your drivers. You can connect both your gpu and mobo and then under device manager see if it's actually being detected by your pc.

Ensure the graphics card is pushed all the way down into the gpu slot on the motherboard. Try reseating it.

Secondly, make sure all wires are connected properly. A loose wire causes all sorts of problems.

Third, reinstall your graphic drivers. A corrupt driver install could definitely interfere with the display.

Fourth, try testing another slot on your motherboard. Place your gpu in the slot below your current slot and then test it.

Also I'm not sure what type of cpu you have, but under device manager in windows you can disable integrated graphics. Try doing that.
