r9 280 really 750watts?

just to run a single card is it really that much wattage cuz that seems stupidly high for single GPU cuz pcpartpicker says all i need is 373watts to run a r9 280 with my system setup and i have a 430watt PSU and im looking to upgrade my PSU also soon to this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207030

Some manufactures pad thier reccomendation to account for psu shaped objects. That 550w xfx is a good psu and should power a 280 without issue.
