R9 280x power usage

is the Gigabyte radeon r9 280x paired with an intel core i3 6100 fine being paired with a 550w power supply?

It seemed like plenty, but then I read somewhere a person recommending a 700w power supply? is this not overkill?

If the psu is of reliable brand you will be okay. If not there could be a problems.

Its a Thermaltake toughpower 550w 80+ Gold. From what I read its fine, but seeing that made me second guess myself.

Well jct I have the same one just 650w. I'm pretty sure you will haven't problem with that psu.

you are fine. you dont need 700w. your psu has enough power even for R9 290x
