R9 280x vs R9 380 4gb vs R9 380x future

Which card should I get? The 280x seems to do better than the 380 in most benchmarks and the 380x seems to match the 280x in most benchmarks. I would go with the R9 280x for 200$, but I'm worried that the extra 1gb of Vram on the 380x could make a massive difference in the future.

Any thoughts on which one I should get?

By no means would it make a massive difference. Only worth it if it costs no more than $20 extra, else it's useless. VRAM has become marketing nowadays.

I currently have the Sapphire Radeon Dual-x R9 280x in my gaming rig and totally happy with it's performance. But after checking out the R9 380x models, they are better for the latest and upcoming games by about 5-10% FPS. Also, consider what games you want to play as VR is really coming on strong and the 380x would be better suited for that, as well.

You will hit the GPU performance ceiling before you hit the vram ceiling, don't worry about that.

The 380X being GCN 1.2 makes it superior in terms of longevity to the 280X, since the 280X is only GCN 1.0.
