yes, you can, BUT it requires hacked drivers, as physx turns itself off if it detects a non nvidia GPU (I think it's ok with intel ones though). Therefore it's liable to having whatever tricks are used to get round it turned off in an update.
No, Physx requires two Nvidia GPUs.

Solution
If you want it easy just buy nvidia card. But If you already have that 280X and still want PhysX.....go buy nvidia card :p

In the past there are hacked driver to make it work but i don't know it the team behind the hacked driver still updating thier works.
