I am getting a 1080p 144hz 1ms panel and upgrading from my 768p monitor and gts 450. I will not be upgrading for 3-4 years and need games to run 100+ fps, i will turn settings down. I'm mostly getting this for cs go, tf2, and overwatch. The 290's are around $250 and 290x are $270. the 380x is supposed to be 290, 380=285, 385=290.

I am not aware of the BS you are referring to unless it's the 3.5 GB red herring. I am much more concerned with the real technical issues which has resulted in the 970 outselling all sixteen R7 and R9 series cards combined in 1/3 the time on market.

I am pulling for AMD to make a splash here with the 390/390x but to reverse their market share position (currently 75%-25%), the other 3xx cards need to reduce their power consumption. If they can manage that, then I think you'd much rather have the 380x
You probably want to wait and at least see what the 300 series looks like when it comes out, bt aside from that, a 290x should be plenty to run cs:go and tf2 at well over 100fps, but seems worth the extra $20 over the 290 just to help you keep up in that 3-4 years you said you'd wait to upgrade. I would also say take the 290x over the 970 just for the true 4GB of VRAM. I don't play overwatch, so I don't know about that.

For reference: my 7950 (overclocked) runs cs:go at 1080p at about 120fps, so I would honestly expect a 290x to run it at around 180fps assuming your CPU can keep up (and that is with max settings).

1. The 970 beats the 290x at all resolutions up to 1440p "outta the box"
2. The 970 beats the 290x at all resolutions when both are overclocked.
3. The 390 / 390x are the only new cards
4. The other 3xx cards will be rebadged R7 / R9 cards so since none of them top the 970, you won't get anything faster.
5. The relative cost of the cards varies individually depending on whether or not you are interested in the games in the game bundle and who / what you can trade them for if you don't intend to use.
6. Don't forget about the extra cost of a 100 watt bigger PSU for each 290 or 290 equivalent card as well as an extra case fan (or 2 if CF) .

One of the kids here in the neighborhood bought a 970 for $320 and sold it an hour after it arrived in unopened for $270; he kept the game coupons. The two games cost him $50 instead of $120.

All that being said.... that's today :) .... it's a whole 'nother discussion once the 390x and 980 Ti drop as we have no idea how that will reshuffle the cost structures of both lines. Shouldn't have to wait much longer....seen recent rumors suggesting from June to August.

1) overwatch is a fps game made by blizzard
2) so i prefer not to buy nvidia because ### but i can, will it be worth waiting for 300 series? because the 380x will not be as cheap as 290x😛
