After looking for a good r9 290 to upgrade too.
I can not decide between the Sapphire Tri x or the MSI TF R9 290.

Anybody have any thoughts on these cards, I prefer the MSI card but it seems over the past year their build quality has gone done. Through oil leaking from fans and some people having DOA, and thermal problems with the card.

The Sapphire is good but the MSI card comes with a backplate which I really like.

So are there any owners or people who have used MSI recently and have had any/or no problems with the TF cards? Also A second question. If I do buy the Sapphire card, does anyone know whether it is a reference pcb or Will I need to buy a custom backplate if I am to put a backplate on it.

-Thanks

Go for Saphire Vapor-X Tri-x OC !! its already got a backplate !
MSI's problems such as oil leaking from fans and some people having DOA, and thermal problems, thats not all,, look at MSI's 970 and 980 they all have problems with coil whine!
SO yes go with Saphire ! Vapor-x its PURE quality !
i am more than happy with my R9 290 ! its on par with the stock 290X ! and even faster than some 970s !

I would, but where I am. The tri-x is only about 7 dollars more, and the Vapour X is 50 dollars more. So from my point of view the Vapour is good but it's rather expensive or what it is.

Im still not sure about MSI, they do have problems but there are also many people who say it worked perfectly for them. So sapphire is more reputable though.
Know anything about buying a cheap backplate for it?
Although the Vapour X looks good >_<
