Hi guys. I have an msi r9 290. Whats the best option.get another msi r9 290 for crossfire or get a msi r9 390 or 980ti??
I want the practical choice. Alot of people said just get another r9 290 and a crossfire r9 290 is better than single 390/x

So any advise?coz r9 290 is cheaper instead of getting a new r9 390 or even a 980ti

Solution
If you get 2 290s, you will generate a LOT more heat, so one card may throttle, and you will need a NEW psu, something 900w or better. If you want, what resolution. If you are happy with how your games are running now, then don't upgrade until pascal or polaris

Solution
A 390 performs the same as a 290x (generally, depends on game and vendor etc). So 290 to 390 is not a good upgrade. If you really want more performance then 290 cf but you need excellent case cooling and about 900w good quality psu. The 200's run hot compared to the 300'.

so r9 390 is not a good upgrade from a r9 290?? what about adding another r9 290 instead of 390?

The 390 is a refreshed 290. Less power, more mem bandwidth, higher stock clocks, runs cooler. In benchmarks, it performs more on par with a 290x (stock clocks) and OC'd 390's pull away. So no, you would notice maybe 5-8 fps more in games, maybe 10 in some.
CF 290 is a good idea but only if you have a large case, good ventilation and good fans with a high powered PSU

I see mate thnks.. so what would yopu suggest for me right now, this is my setup,

fractal arc midi r2 case
4690k
thermaltake nic c5 cooler
msi z97 gaming 5 mobo
seasonic 620watt evo bronze ( obviously i will upgrade this if ever i will CF )

so what would yo usuggest for future upgrade of gpu,, should i wait for pascal/polaris?? if so is the new pascal polaris compatible with my build? compatible with my mobo and procie??

Well the 290 is strong so if you are happy with FPS and performance then keep it until new GPUs. The CPU is strong for Crossfire so no worries there. I doubt the case I large enough to keep 2x 290's suitably cool without throttling, so that is the other issue.

I guess if you have money to burn then maybe something like a Fury X would be a nice upgrade, or the 980ti. Both would give you decent fps increase but performance increase/money spent wouldn't be great!!

i see much appreciated men.. so if ever i will use crossfire what case should I pick? an nzxt h440 will do?? yah for me my r9 290 is still strong.. kind of overkill still... lol... im just planning to get the new ASUS MG279Q thats why I need an upgrade that is not too much for my money.. i thought of the 290 crossfire becasue the r9 290 here is now cheaper than ever.. compare to getting the new msi 980ti or even fury X
