r9 290 display connection problem

My monitor has dvi-d dual channel connection ( lg m208wa ). Tried to connect with stock hdmi cable through dvi-hdmi adapter, the monitor recognizes the connection, but it immediately goes into sleep mode, no picture is displayed. In bios Pci is set as primary monitor, internal graphics is disabled. I guess it should work because doth connectors are digital. Buying dvi-dvi cable is an option, but it should work fine the way it is. Need help with that.

Boot up with no gpu installed, power off, install gpu, boot up, worked for me.
