r9 290 making cpu too hot

Hi!
I just bought a gigabyte r9 290 windforce oc and the gaming results are incredible, I'm very happy with it. It's a bit noisy but it's running at no more than 70 degrees celsius under load, which I think is great for this card.
However, my cpu (i5 2300) doesn't seem to be too happy with it. When idling, it now runs at 40 degrees and reacher 71 degrees under full load. Is this going to damage it in anyway? I've read the max temperature for this cpu is 72 degrees and I'm worried it might fail.
I have the cooler master 212 evo installed but it doesn't seem to be powerful enough for the task.

What would you guys suggest I do? I have already spent a lot of money on the gpu but I could stretch my budget a little and buy a better cpu cooler or something like that. I do not want more noise on my case, which, if it's of any help, is a define r4 no windowed with 2 fans. It's a very closed case and airflow might not be optimal. Should I get a better cpu cooler (noctua, for say) or just go for an all in one water cooling kit like the corsair h80 or cm seidon?

Tyvm for your help,
Miquel

Your airflow doesn't seem to happy with the extra heat being dissipated from the 290. Check and see if your case is hot on the inside. Take the side panel off and see if the temperatures change. If you can't get good enough airflow, you might just need to go with some watercooling in an intake position. You would want positive air pressure in your case anyways, so this would help. I wouldnt think that the CPU would give off too much extra heat, after all, it is a relatively low clocked i5.

You need more airflow through your case. The evo can only work as well as the temp differential between it's ambient and the cpu. The gpu is warming up the air in your case and causing it to work less efficiently. Does it operate cooler if you remove the side panel? Can you install a fan in the side of the case?

It only happens during long sessions of gaming so I guess the GPU is heating up the air. Tomorrow morning I will test the side panel thing. Would you recommend getting a second cpu fan, buying a couple case fans..? If so, which ones? My pc is already noisy enough, so I don't want much more noise in my pc.

I just changed the location of my case fans, which has helped about 5 degrees celsius.

What do you think about Corsair Air Series AF120 Low Noise? I can get 2 for 26 bucks, while 2 noctua would set off to 38 bucks.

And thank you for your help.
